I've got an '06 with 166K on her. Not expecting anything to break. I did however have to replace the alternator due to an issue with the voltage regulator on the '06-'07 model years.

thats basically the same engine as my 02 echo....

Good to know it was possibly the voltage regulator and not my habits nor care

(I replaced my alternator at 159k)

I bought a 2007 Yaris RS 3 Dr model about 5 months ago in Canada as well (I paid also 4500$) .. and have had no problems. It also had 162,000 KM on it .. and the only problem the car has ever had is that the water pump was replaced under warranty. I don't expect to have any problems and the car just runs and runs. So overall I would be confident that your Yaris would give you many years of reliable service.
