I wouldnt recommend removing the liner completely. Yes road debris will be able to get into the engine bay and will get everything very dirty and could let rocks/water in which could cause issues.
I just cut the upper portions of the liner that rubs on the tire and leave the rest especially the portion that sits inbetween the front of the tire and the engine bay. |
