With Trini_per4mance, he actually averaged much more than 200 per day early on. He reached 150K in the first year. That's just nuts. He'd spend something like 8-10 hours everyday on the highway doing his courier job! In the last couple of years he hasn't used his Yaris for work as he's doing something else. If he had continued his 1st year pace he would have driven over 1,000,000 miles in under 7 years!

Trini isn't alone either. There is an older guy on YouTube whose video is integrated into a Kendall Oil Internet commercial. He lives in Louisiana and drove (for pleasure) a 2007 Corolla 524,000 miles in about 3 1/2 years between late 2007 and early 2011.

Another guy on YouTube averaged even more per year. He does deliveries and works all around Iowa and 3 nearby states. IIRC, he bought a 2009 Corolla in 2009 at Toyota of Des Moines and in 3 years and (doing deliveries) put somewhere between 503,000 and 509,000 miles on the car.

I do wonder myself. He never says on his YouTube comments what he did with it.

He says he was disappointed when the ODO stopped at 999,999 KM. Some might expect it to reset to 0 like the old analog ones but these digital ones just freeze. Too bad.

I think automakers should start allowing 7 figure readings on odometers since it's achieved by a decent amount of people. It wouldn't be that difficult to leave space for one more number. A frozen ODO really sucks.

There's many 2nd Gen Prius owners who are stuck at 299,999 miles. For some reason, Toyota messed up this particular odometer max. The Prius is one of the most reliable cars so that mileage is no big deal yet it freezes before 300K.

Remember when odometers only went up to 99,999? That was ridiculous. As if the automakers didn't think their cars could go past just that. This was right up through the '80's. Now, 100K is achieved with cars still performing as new.

I agree that manufacturers should put in 7 figure odometers.

Poor 2nd Gen Prius owners. Since you specifically pointed out the 2nd Gen, I assume that was corrected with the 3rd Gen?

Re 99,999...I'd almost forgotten about that. Crazy. My mother bought an Acura Integra new in the late 80s, and I think that was the first car she ever owned that had a 100,000 mile plus odometer.

The Yaris is, I believe, the first car I've owned that has a digital (non 'rolling wheels') odometer.

In 2007 I saw an old 'rolling wheel numbers' gas pump in Tupelo, MS (visited Elvis' birthplace), and that was the first one of those I'd seen since the 80s.

Lets not forget my car(highest mileage Yaris in the world as far as I know @ 540,000) and the entire fleet of Yaris the company had(07-08) with a min of 350k up to 475k when we bought them out back in 2011. Every car there ran hundreds of miles per day 5 days a week, mine was at 500(ish) per day. They also had a handful of 600K Echo.


There is no other maker out there that can handle the miles like Toyota, this is first hand experience with dozens of people who put on 100,000+ miles per year for the last 20 years. Some of them don't even change their oil....

Sorry I neglected to mention your Yaris and the additional high mileage Yari that were part of your fleet when you purchased your company. Looking at my past posts, you can see that I usually do .

I only mention it in these threads in case the one post somebody in the market for a Yaris happens across is one of them...I want to reinforce the fact that Toyota is the reliability king...and the Yaris being no exception.

And I agree re reliability...one reason I = when Consumer Reports acknowledges this, but then lists picky personal dislikes that are a matter of taste.

What's frustrating about auto reviews is that they rarely take reliability/longevity into account when rating/comparing models. This always left the Yaris at the short end of the stick because it didn't do what the journalists wanted. Auto journalist aren't putting their money down on the cars they drive so all they care about is which one is most fun and other surface niceties. Those of us in the real world place a large amount of priority on other things, perhaps the biggest being reliability. That's where the Yaris wins hands down.

Yeah thats well said.

They dont evaluate small cars for the purpose for which they are intended. Cheap transportation. They keep trying to make the car into something its not.

When the ECHO came out Edmunds review trashed the heck out of it in spite of over whelming owner reviews. I tried to point the above out to them but got nowhere.
