I think I just figured it out
If the offset hole is to the rear of the car it pushes the bottom of the cradle forward resulting in positive caster and if the offset hole is to the front of the car it pulls the cradle back and results in negative caster.
When installed and being professionally aligned the technician will adjust the caster accordingly.
Although the work will be done by professionals I always like to know what they are doing or have to do so I can have peace of mind.
Do correct me where necessary.
