I can see multiple future uses (for me) re what Scott has pulled together . However, I think your solution is ALSO great for a temporary need in California (use both) ......but I only need one of them...not eight . Do you know of any retail STORE (that has a location in TX, NM, AZ or CA...or even in Las Vegas) that sells them individually, not by the 8 pack ?

Oh, that's just the first pic I found of it. I bought mine at a local hardware store a few years back, so I don't know if it's even in production anymore.

Thanks. It is, I just haven't located anything smaller than an eight pack. I'll check a few stores in California when the time comes.

And, here's another advantage of using the Yaris in place of the Tacoma: FREE dump runs.

I pulled out a set of built-in bookshelves recently and needed to dispose of them. I decided to load them into the back of the Yaris, rather than using the carrier, as it was a lot of pieces of wood. We get charged by volume to dispose of items other than recyclables or household trash at our recycling center, and normally a run like this would run somewhere between $25 and $40 depending on which dump dude looked at the truck and estimated the volume. With my short bed Tacoma, this would have looked like a lot of material, so chances are that I would have gotten dinged the $40.

With the Yaris, I tell the dump dude that I have a book shelf in the back to dispose of and he looks at the car and says "In the back of that little thing?". I say yes and he says "It can't be very big to fit in there. No charge". Little did he realize that this is what was back there:

I think you may be right. They even charge to dispose of brush (which they then run through a chipper and sell as mulch).

The one I'll be dealing with in California charges $22.00 per cubic yard (with a minimum charge of $25.00 ) or between $78.00 and $83.75 per ton depending on the nature of the contents. Also set higher amounts for stoves, A/C units, TVs, CRTs, etc (at least they take TVs ). In 2009, it was a flat amount for access (a bit over $20.00)....at least for cars up to a Tundra sized pickup.

Oh, that is too sweet!

I once carried a futon in the back of my liftback. I taco'd the mattress and tied it that way. all seats folded down. Got the job done

Thanks for sharing this. I've been trying to decide between the two style hitch receivers for some time. I'll likely get one early next month.
