You can for the most part estimate that when your second to last bar drops leaving you the final one (non-blinking) you have spent roughly 9.4/9.5 gals.

I did that once when I was on my very first trip back with the car when I bought it in 06. Ended up with my only 46+ mpg tank.

Lost the 6th bar ( top to bottom ) at around 362 . Should be able to get well over 420 (?) . If not , back to a Prius . The "C" .

For those that might be interested, it appears that I have about a gallon left when my gauge goes to the remaining flashing bar. I filled up on my way to work this morning and put in 10.3 gallons and I had driven some the day before with the bar flashing.
It's looking like I am averaging 41-42 mpg. The first tank got me 42mpg and this one got me 41 mpg. |

I'm sorry. I thought it was in my description under my name. I need to change that.
It is a manual. I have read some reporting better here, but the last two tanks seem to be just over 40mpg. This has been mostly all in-town driving. I am not sure if a long trip will get me better. |

Oops , I think it is stated . Sorry , the eyes aren't what they were . Very good gas mileage . We had a 3 door with the 5 speed . Miss it . Did get over 43 with it a few times . Better pick up with the stick . |

I like the manual. Other than work vehicles, I have never owned a vehicle with an automatic transmission. So, when I found the Yaris and saw it was a manual, I took that as a sign to buy it. However, first gear can be a little tricky. I don't know if it is the wireless throttle, quietness of the engine, low idle or what, but I find it a little tricky starting off under certain conditions. I am better with it now, but I still need to get better. |

Oh
. Just another one of those moments . I had the same issue at first , got better in time . The other 1/2 couldn't drive it that well , so traded it in so we'd have 2 automatics . Didn't sacrifice much for gas mileage . Enjoy your manual .

Scott has done a test before, measuring when the gas gauge actually begins to measure consumption. That's the reason the first bar always lasts the longest. My record is 107 miles before the first bar disappears.
107 x 7 bars = 749 miles/tank...which is outlandish and impossible. Hence why on that same tank, I only got 423 miles. Mind you, I've only had patience to baby 400 miles out of a tank twice, and I've had my car for over 2 years now and almost 55,000 miles. This is the reason that the first bar always last the longest, and subsequent bars disappear quicker. That first bar isn't measured properly because the gas can be filled beyond what the gauge inside the tank reads as 'full'. -C

We once hit 100 before the first bar dropped but the rest of the bar dropped FAST. Still got 37MPG at the end with more highway than city driving. BAR ONE IS DECEIVING!

I am starting to think that the Yaris has some cheap ass parts and things like the gas gauge are cheap and inconsistent. But yea, bar one is deceiving!

I've gotten 125-130 miles out of my first bar a couple of times before with 17's on, short ram intake, and exhaust. lol. (07 sedan, stick shift).
I think that was all freeway. All city driving, I'll get 70-80 out of the first bar, and highway driving, I get 60-70 out of the first bar. |
