Picked it up today after some more tuning. Pics and hopefully a little vid tomorrow for you guys.

THE GOOD

**Runs 8.7 psi off the spring, FULL boost by 2800 rpm - the GT28 with the smaller A/R choice (.64) was totally the way to go.
**Runs very smoothly, much better than before. Idle is adjustable (along with everything else), no more rpm hunting.
**Art programmed a two-step rev limiter. If the e-brake is pulled (enough to light the dash light), it sets the first rev limiter -- this is a great and easy way to do a launch control. Can't wait to drag race this car.
** All dash gauges still work! Speedo, fuel gauge etc., so the dash has its own ECU, doesn't need the main one.
** The xB pedal/cable/TB/intake mani ROCK. So responsive! I love cable throttles.

THE "BAD"

It needs more tuning, not ready to beat up on at 5000+ rpm yet. Might need different coils. Might need bigger injectors Going to drive "safely" until next thursday when we can go at it again. Trying to get it tuned to a certain point when we can do the motor swap. Not quite there yet, but the car is quite drivable.

THE WEIRD

The electronic power steering doesn't work any more. I know it has its own control unit and relay -- wondering if it is somehow linked to the ECU. Anyone know? Meanwhile... I actually LIKE it! Not that easy when idling, but once under way the car has a much better feel. I may do a DIY on how to disable your power steering so you can try this.

Ok = that's all for tonight!

it's on the C/D i sent you
but from memory the power steering is controled via the main ecu ,
which takes readings from speed and rpm module, i think

^ thanks, working on those now. The pencil coils are arcing, tried di-electric grease -- first gremlin to fix for sure.

The power steering ECU gets its data via CAN from the ECM, so depending on how you're fooling the ECM into being happy, it may not be giving the power steering ECU what it needs. Actually, looking at it more closely - The power steering ECU gets the vehicle speed feed from the combination meter.

The ECM is happy -- it's sitting on my desk.

Sure glad I like the steering the way it is now... !

Maybe you should sit the power steering ECU next to him. You'll save a couple more pounds and the two can be happy together.

You can find out for sure by checking the DTCs for the power steering ECU. You can make it show you the code(s) by flashes of the P/S warning light:

1. With the ignition off jump pins 12 and 13 of the DLC3 connector (OBDII) to pin 4.

2. Turn the ignition on.

3. Watch the P/S light. It will flash quick flashes followed by pauses. Not the pattern(s). Codes seen will be some combination of: 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 24, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 41, 42, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55

4. Turn the ignition off and remove the jumpers.

Told you about the GT28... that was the way to go....

Just wait until you can rev it up to the red line... that turbo will give you more HP per psi of boost than my GT25
You will feel a big difference higher on the rev band.

BTW.... are you rasing the rev limit?

CTScott, thanks will try that. And yes, that ECU might become another nice souvenir.

Rev limit, yes depending on dyno results and where the power band ends up. Art's xB is set at 7200 I believe.

hey Garm... with all that extra power, are you adding additional bracing to the chassis/engine?

I'll be using the TRD engine mounts when we swap motors. don't need to do much at this point. I have just the torque damper on there now.
