montreal is a really nice city, not to mention a great party town
their hockey team is terrible though, the most pathetic team in the history of the game. :) |

No we did not, a recent requirement. Perhaps only for air travelers, requirements have not yet been firmed up for those arriving by land or water. In fact, passport requirement has been "relaxed" very recently, since there is currently an enormous backlog of passport apps; to get around it all you have to do is show you have applied.

It's true. Living in the same city, wanted to mention that many people here are very sensible to environmental issues, and a lot of them live in the heart of the city in places with tiny streets and very little parking places... the HB it's ideal for such locations
secondly the government cuts 1000$ in taxes for every new Yaris - this also helps. but check out also the number of Mazda 3 here in Montreal, even more popular that the Yaris |

Yay for Canada! Land of the RS!
kurokoma... it would've been much more affordable about 5 years ago when our dollar was about 70 cents US. Now we're almost on par! Much cheaper for us to come visit you guys!

this is a big issue here in canada and some american border towns because there are worries that cross-border trade (and shopping trips) will be affected by this requirement. |

We were kind of surprised by it at my company. We have a major customer with HQ in Toronto, and everyone was used to just hopping on a plane for meetings with them. My boss was set to go earlier this year, but had to cancel b/c she could not get passport in time. |

there is a huge wait time here for passports, i think you can get one within a couple of days as a sort of emergency thing, but it costs significantly more.
you don't need it yet to cross by land, but my wife went to detroit with some of her friends last month and those without passports were given a hard time at the border, they seem to be strongly "encouraging" the acquiring of passports. |
