If you mount it on the steering column then you are needing to take your eyes to a whole new spot. The one in the photo has 4 places for your eyes..... nav, steering column, gauges, center rear view mirror. With mine mounted on top of the mirror at is natural to glace and see it while checking the mirror. It's all a matter of personal choice. You can purchase an additional cable-plug from scangauge to ease transfers to another car.
