Hey Marty,
The instructions that came with my Toyota winter mats specifically warned against installing them over the factory carpet mats. I suspect it may be an issue with them getting hung up under the pedals since the floor hooks cannot catch both mats in unison due to the total thickness.
I simply rotate the carpet and rubber mats between the passenger footwells and trunk depending on the season.

True dat. I read the same Toyota note. The hook actually JUST extends through the loop hole, but thanks for the warning. They don't shift at all, but I can see why Toyota would recommend against using 2 mats.

Lets call it underpadding for my rubber mats! ;)
