Proper offset?

on stock suspension or with a little bit of camber, you can easily run a +35 offset.. it'll give you a very nice flush look. 205 tire MAX though.

although if you lower the car with the +35mm you run the risk of rubbing.

that is not true in the slightest, we can run pretty low offsets on Scions with out rubbing
I run 17x7 +18 front and +5 rear.... with 205/40R17.... I am lowered 3 inches, no rubbing problems.

I run a 15x7 +35mm on my YARIS and it rubbed when lowered until we put coilovers on. I have a feeling that's a little more applicable then your scion when regarding the OP's setup.

Although I could be wrong....

Scions + Low offsets = OK (I ran a +25 in the rear w/o problems on my xB)

Yaris + Low offsets = Rub.

I rubbed with a 15x6.5, +38, and 205/50/15s
I rubbed badly with a 16x7, +37, and 205/50/16s

Heck, I even rub a tad bit with +40 and 195/55/15. Granted, my front end is pretty low, but not that low.

went to the local showroom here in adelaide and loved the look of the black rims, non of the other black rims they had i thought looked good, if you can suggest other rims i am more than happy to look at them as i am always changing my mind

i recommend Team Dynamics (the racing line, not the "street line") an excellent UK-made wheel and comes in decent offerings for width and offset. simple designs, strong, and relatively lightweight
