Not in Toyota's... And why would you prefer an expensive belt service over nothing required?

A lot of toyota engines, as well as most imports, used to use belts. Not anymore... Even the new 4.0 V6 (4-runner and FJ) and the new 5.7 V8 (Tundra) now use chains. In fact almost every new engine Toyota has uses a chain. Hell, even our 2006 Civic 1.8 has a chain...

And that's belt, not belts...

CHAINS FTW

For Timing Belts, please reference our "Timing Belt Recommendations" FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) to determine the maintenance interval recommendations.

For Timing Chain and Gears, there are no prescribed replacement intervals; these components should be replaced as needed.

Oh sorry I'm an old subaru guy - we have 2 belts; one for each 2 cyl bank. I made the assumption that the toyota 4.7L v8 had 2 belts also.

My question to toyota designers, especially with the thinner oils utilised today wiith low EP adds, why no roller followers on the cam tappets (ala Mitsubishi) and why "non- adjustable without a extensive tear down? Gee I could easily adjust my 2.3L chevy vega inveted bucket tappet with a hex key and only remove the valve cover
