5 speed 5 doors yaris is likely to be available world wide, except in the states.

at least, it is available in Canada as a 5 door RS.

Doesn't make much sense to me. How is it that sedan and 3-door buyers want MT's but somehow 5 door LB buyers wouldn't? Come on Toyota...
Heck, if they build them in other markets anyway, how difficult is it to ship some to the US?

Certainly, in Europe/Asia they are readily available. Every car overseas is available with a stick. In fact, they think automatics are for lazy people.

I guess we just have to appreciate that Toyota brought the 5-door over here at all!

Two different dealers tried to push the XD on me when I expressed my disgust over the lack of a M/T in the 5 door Yaris. They jumped into an immediate song and dance about how the XD is built on the same platform, ect. It almost seemed well rehearsed or preprogrammed. I truly think that's what is behind it all. I'm not buying the whole market research smoke screen. Toyota is simply trying to protect the Scion brand by limiting the Yaris offerings. Scion offers two 5 doors with M/T's (XB & XD). Yaris at first offered only a 3 door LB and 4 door sedan which didn't conflict with Scion's offerings. Scion had already brought to market the asthetically challenged and uninspiring XD 5 door. Sales were sluggish and the public reception is not what they expected. Meanwhile, the Honda Fit proves to be a sales success as does the Nissan Versa 5 door. Toyota realizes they need to get in on the 5 door compact game so they bring the 5 door Yaris in but deliberately without a M/T option in a vain effort to promote the lackluster XD as the "enthusiast" or "youth" 5 door option. Toyota's alleged "market research" claims there's just no interest in a 5 door with a M/T in the US. Honda, Nissan, Kia, and Suzuki's sales of 5 door M/T's suggest otherwise. If the complaints registered on this forum are respresentative of the buyers' wants, I'd say there is a demand for it. Where exactly did they do their "market research?" I'm guessing at a Scion board or dealers meeting. The market research excuse is often just good ole fashioned BS for customer manipulation. "Market research has indicated that there's no demand for what you're asking for, so you'd better just buy what we already offer." The very fact that you're asking for it proves there's a degree of demand.

I would agree

the first thing they said was how about and XD or XB?

they had rows upon rows of XD and XB's but only about 4-6 yari on the lot

i read something that scion sales were way down due to poor marketing

they dropped the bomb hardcore on the new XB design and openly admitted that

The XD has not sold as projected, and i know a ton of scion owners were mad that they are reusing special edition RS colors over and over again.

They put out this ridiculous concept car the flops hardcore

when scion came out on the market the 1st gen XA and XB were awesome

totally different option! now its like they lost there way

i was really hoping they would bring the open deck Bb over or the new gen Bb but we get this monstrosity car and driver dubbed the "kids mini van"

it grinds my gears about the 5 door

its kinda like toyota telling you go but a fit if you want 5 spd

so basically you're saying you wouldn't buy an xD because toyota didn't market it properly?

does this make it any LESS of a contender (dominator) of the 5door yaris?

no.
