if you get 45% or 55% like you want, you will be fine. I heard in San Jose cops dont harass at all for tints under 35%.....

Now from experience, you DONT want to be anywhere near San Francisco w/ that low of tint %.....or any tint at all haha. they make up their own rules/laws in SF~

It looks nice, but i think you should def. tint the front windows somewhat, to hide valuables and reduce heat inside vehicle. Come to the meet on Saturday and you will get an idea of how dark to get or how light to get. :)

Sun Screening Devices: Requirements

26708.2. Sun screening devices permitted by paragraph (10) of subdivision (b) of Section 26708 shall meet the following requirements:

(a) The devices shall be held in place by means allowing ready removal from the window area, such as a frame, a rigid material with temporary fasteners, or a flexible roller shade.

(b) Devices utilizing transparent material shall be green, gray, or a neutral smoke in color and shall have a luminous transmittance of not less than 35 percent.

(c) Devices utilizing nontransparent louvers or other alternating patterns of opaque and open sections shall have an essentially uniform pattern over the entire surface, except for framing and supports. At least 35 percent of the device area shall be open and no individual louver or opaque section shall have a projected vertical dimension exceeding 3/16 inch.

(d) The devices shall not have a reflective quality exceeding 35 percent on either the inner or outer surface.

Nonremovable tint (the stuff you get put on at a shop) has a legal limit of 70%, which is basically nothing but a UV ray protective layer.

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

Trust me on that. I removed mine because I got two fix-it tickets for my 35% front side tints.

So the factory tint on the higher end luxury cars is removable? It looks like ordinary tint done from a local tint shop, otherwise.

I saw an RX350, forget what year 2008? Have a bit lighter tint than mine on the front two windows sitting at the dealer brand spankin new....i dont think it was the removable kind, if it was, it done damn good because no air bubbles were to be found

hahahaha, that's not to say that dealership won't sell you something that is not road legal. I don't think the TRD intake is road legal, but they'll still sell you it from the dealership. I'm sure there are some fine print on the window sticker that states that the front tint is for "off road use only".

My neighbor bought a CLK that was modded from the factory. It has front side tints that I would say are 25%-20%.

Okay, so what happens when you have an aftermarket CAI (like I do ) I've never heard of a cop asking someone to pop their hood open, but I guess it's possible, so that would be a fix-it ticket. How about smog? Can you get smogged if you have a custom CAI and exhaust manifold (header)?

Nope, I think only one company was able to get a CARB sticker on their CAI for our car, forget which one tho. If it doesn't have a CARB sticker, it will be considered illegal, so I'm going to assume a fix it ticket. As for smog, you probably would want to put back the stock box on before you go. As for the header, if you still have that head shield above it, the smog station won't see it, so it'll pass visual inspection. I don't think it does anything to the actual test, so you'll be good.

I know with Nismo, they state on their R-Tune CAI: “This part has been designed and is intended for off-highway application only. The installation of this part on a vehicle intended for use on public streets or highways may violate laws and regulations relating to
motor vehicle safety standards or emission regulations."

You're actually right, once you select the vehicle (Yaris) it says it's not street legal. I checked the CARB website and there are no EO's (Executive Orders) for the Yaris on anything.

And you know what really upsets me? With all the mods that I could think of, even if I took out the catalytic converter, my Yaris would not generate as much pollution in one year as any 18 wheeler out there in one day...

According to a thread on here,
- the Fujita F5 had it's CARB status pending.
- the AEM was CARB legal.
- and so was the Injen.

However now browsing their sites,
- AEM states "CARB exempt: NO"
- Injen states "EO#: pending"

.. so I guess none of the intakes are CARB legal for the time being anyways.

In Michigan you can get a doctors note that you give the Secretary of State Office to allow you to tint the entire wind shield. Check your local laws, then go squint for your doctor to see if they will give you a note.

In Tennessee there is an old law that forces you to take a bath once a week, still in effect as far as I know

What I'm trying to say is, it's alright, it's not a big deal, I'll just take the tint off before I go to the doctor
