It's right around the kbb value for private party selling. Also, the car does have a few options that I neglected to mention: rear wiper/defroster, alloy wheels and a mp3 player.

The seller says they owe $9,000 on the car which is why they won't go lower (and they claim they were offered $8,600 by the dealership though I'm not sure this is entirely true since this is about $1,200 -$1,400 more than the kbb trade-in value).

But it sounds like you aren't overly concerned about the high mileage? It is mostly highway miles as it was used to commute to work, as you guessed, about 50 miles away.
