In early Feburary 2009, 3 months after making my last payment, my 2003 Hyundai Accent was totalled when it was hit from behind by a Dodge truck. I got offered a little over $5000 for it from the insurance company, which I took but when I accepted it, my rental car was cut off.
I looked online and found the Yaris one of the 3 new cars in my price range and my wife kept telling me how great Toyotas were(I've owned 3 Ford and Hyundai), plus I saw what kind of mileage it got, so I hit a few lots here on a Sunday and found a Yaris in my price range equipped the way I wanted it(plain jane, with the only options being A/C, stereo, Floor Mats, power nothing, 5spd.), and it was the cheapest brand new car I could find in town. I went back the next day and test drove that very same Yaris(white with gray pinstripes) and kind of made the salesman nervous when I said I hadn't driven standard in 13 years. I liked the car, they had a rebate deal, plus my credit union gave me a good rate(4.9%), so I put the $5K down on it and picked it up the next day. I've been driving it for almost 10 months and it's a great little car. It's fun to drive and gets great mileage. People in parking lots sometimes ask me what it is and ask me about it, and I give it a big thumbs up. The center speedometer takes some adjusting to, and it's a little short on trunk space if you don't put the back seat down but overall, It's a great little car. My attorney got me a settlement for my pain/suffering from the accident, and put that into the car as well, so it will be paid off in 2 years. I like this little car and plan to drive it for a long time. RedStickHam |

+1. I had another reasonable car before I wrecked it. Seeing as how that was my 4th used car and my 2nd wreck, I decided it was time to just finally suck up the idea of having a car payment and get a new one. I drove a Versa for a month as a rental and though it was nice, but decided on a Yaris after much research. The 40 MPG rating is what sold me. Haven't looked back since.

- Best in class MPG
- Bullet proof reliability - Best styling in class - Cheaper than Fit (one of the other top contenders) - Lowest cost to own short term and long term. - Character (hard to define but it's there) |

+1, this was a major point in my decision to get it. I love small cars and I love hatchbacks.

One of the last SIMPLE cars left. Lightweight, barebones (if you want it to be), and cheap.
Cars are getting to damn big and overloaded with crap. Give consumers the option to buy a basic car. Crank windows, manual trans, etc... |

why i bought a yaris?
my girlfriend has a 2008 yaris hatchback with 5 gears multimode transmission.
i am used to drive a manual-transmission car (my mom's) but when i saw the multimode (called "robotic" transmission in Israel) i fell in love with it. the car doesn't "drink" gas..israelis love toyota and japanese car and they stick to them like gold because of it's proven reliability.if someone decides to sell it,it's bought in a matter of days. plus,it's beautiful

Because gas at the time was $4.39 a gallon and I was spending $450 a month just in gas while using my truck for the commute to work. So I figured I'm already spending that much I might as well have a NEW car that gets 40 mpg and the payment of a couple hundred bucks. So I saved about $100 a month and drive a NEW car.
Now I belong to this forum, met great people who share the same interest and I'm so glad I own one. |

For me I am getting one because I have a motorcycle as a daily driver, and a 1972 Ford Bronco with a 5 1/2" lift on 35" tires that gets 8 mpg. I need a warm economical car and after seeing the white yaris with the INGs +1 body kit I was sold.
Picking mine up tommorow and I can hardly wait. |
