Okay this is starting to turn into a flame war here so this will be the last post i will make on this thread. What i noticed on threads that start to go this route is people who respond and join in dont read the thread and reponses from start to finish and may only read the last 1 or 2 pages and then comment typing in all caps and start using curse words without knowing the whole story.

If you account the fact that he payed in addition to his oil change for a tire rotation which was 26 dollars. Otherwise he would have payed pretty much 60 dollars for just a synthetic oil change alone at the dealership. Which 60 dollars is not entirely unreasonable. Jiffy lube charges 79.95 for synthetic oil change using penzoil platinum for up to 5 quarts. I am not sure if they adjust the price down if a vehicle takes less oil.

I am not tryign to say you should go to the dealership just try to explain why they charge a higher labor rate.

The reason I am comparing it to a normal 20 dollar oil change is to show you the labor rate is the same as a synthetic oil change. They labor they charged the Origonal Post was about 7 dollars. the extra 26 dollars came into play when he decided to get a tire rotation.

So really the only question should be the price he payed for the oil. We cant say for certain what type of oil he got in his car when going to the dealer. Unless someone here works for toyota they can state the brand. Sure they may buy it in massive bulk and get a discount rate which gives them a greater margin of markup but in reality it is not that great. If they sell the synthetic for 11 bucks i dont realisticly think they payed 2 or 3 bucks. At a minumum its about 5 bucks. Unless its some generic brand synthetic. I have worked with a lot of venders and i know what the prices are out on the market. If you dont want to believe me you have the right to your opinion just like i have the right to my own.

.

I can rotate my tires in less than 7 minutes using 1 jack stand and the pos factory jack. And it will be free. The dealership has a lift. With 1 tech they could rotate in probably 2 minutes or less, with 2 techs less than a minute. So thats $26 for a minute or two of work. Thats about $1500 an hour!! But still you say thats not a profit? Your dealership must have a water park in it for the customers to use while getting their car serviced!
