Thats exactly what I am talking about. If its a tight short course you try and stay in 2rd, if its a bit more open you might have to shift into 3rd. Thats why some 6 spd cars are at a disadvantage on certain courses.

You sure as hell don't want to drop back into 1st gear in an auto-x.

I have never dropped back into 1st with my Neon. Perhaps the lack of trq. in the yaris will make it a necessity. I guess I will see once the season starts up.
