Toyota recalls 130,000 U.S. Yaris cars
Dan Strumpf / Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Toyota is recalling 1.3 million vehicles worldwide due to a seat belt defect. The recall includes more than 130,000 Yaris models sold in the U.S.
Toyota Motor Sales USA says it is working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall 134,900 model-year 2006 and 2007 Yaris subcompact cars. The automaker says in severe front-end collisions, the seat belt is at risk of causing a foam pad in the vehicle to ignite.

if they were sold in the U.S., werent they made in Japan?

ok, i wasnt dreaming, since members here did go get recall work done on Japanese made Yarii.

im not bashing the yaris at all (as it seem as dependable as anything on the road), just the idea that cars made in japan are immune to problems.

Globalized trade/Production

Setting blame for product defect due to production capabilities within particular national boundaries is..laughable. Please, do instruct us (we're listening) in the science of separating design/engineering/production processes by hundreds or thousands of suppliers based upon physical location.
Sorry, things aren't as simple anymore - do you know otherwise?

Took much longer re-adjusting when I came back to the states.

GO! have fun, and have your bills paid up in advance... cause it is a spendy place. Sit down in a YoshiNoya and have a beef rice bowl for me, then head over to a SunKus (circle K by a different name), and pick up the 6piece sushi with the 3 pieces of the rice rolls with sweet egg covering... AHHHH I miss those, never thought such tasty food could exist in a mini-mart, and to think it was like $3. After that... drop $150 and get yourself a Kobe Steak.... a REAL ONE. I regret not getting around to that when I was there.
what do you mean, wtf? A 12 hour ride isn't exactly next door
Hard to do that over an extended WE.

I know I'd love to see all the cars, and all the gadgets and stuff they get on the Japanese market way ahead of us (well, that is if we *ever* get them, actually). 3 of my friends have gone over to JP under an exchange program and have described at length how the technology is more advanced, etc. Some day maybe, will celebrate Cherry Blossoms festival over there.

(sorry for the off topic OP)

I am confused on why the yaris managed to escape the recent recalls..but I get nervous because every week toyota is making more recalls on their cars. I think it is only time before one is put out for the yaris.

I believe the Yaris benefits from being simple and basic. Most cars today are becoming overly complex and that just opens the door for more and more problems. That said, it's still possible to avoid that many issues with great attention to detail. Lexus for the most part has proven that.

I honestly don't see a recall coming for the Yaris. There's many examples of high mileage Yaris's with no problems reported, most notably Triniper4mance's 400,000 miles virtually trouble free.

I just wonder why some people think that just because a car was assembled in Japan, all of its part are made in Japan.

The fact is, Toyota has parts imported from other countries just like all other auto maufacturers.

Japanese car makers are in some cases now sending powertrains built in the U.S. back to Japan for assembly into cars made there.
