"Spikes" on the roof?

I was at work earlier and I saw an Sti with these spike-like things on the rear end of his roof. They're small and look kind of like mini roof antennae. What is the name of these? I'm pretty sure I saw them on someone's yaris on this forum but I can't find it atm...

"vortex generators"

Their purpose (on an STI) is to help create more downforce on the wing when that air hits it.

Would that be me

But yeah, like Garm said, they're vortex generators. Completely useless in our cars since they're designed to redirect airflow to a "big" wing to add more downforce (more downforce on the rear of a fwd car is not good). I think they look good, so that's why I got them (plus my spoiler doesn't really create downforce).

So far as I know they never came on the STi, only on the Evo MR, which you have pictured :D

The 06+ STi sedan had a roof deflector that had a similar purpose (directing/cleaning air that goes to the spoiler).

They never came from the factory with them, but were available from various aftermarket companies:

Yes, I suppose that would be you

I had no idea they actually served a practical purpose (well, except for our cars at least). Any ideas on where I could get a set? They look pretty sweet

I got mine from an RX-8 site, but eBay has them cheaper. Here ya go:

If you want the gloss black:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VORTE...Q5fAccessories

Primered if you want to paint them your cars color:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VORTE...Q5fAccessories

Same brand I got, btw.

i have an array of airtabs brand vortex generators on my LB. i put them on the car to break up the negative pressure zone behind the hatch.

since i dont have a rear wiper, my window gets dirty fast when it rains or the snow melts.... the airtabs DO help keep the top half of the window clearer than without.

i have been thinking of putting 5 or 6 on the bottom edge of the bumper, underneath the car, as a poor mans diffuser.

A functional diffuser speeds up the air, so it wouldn't be quite the same, but it's still a cool idea.

A spoiler on the hatchback keeps the rear window a lot cleaner, too.

These look great... especially black on red. I'm debating going gloss black or primer and color matching to my silver sedan. I noticed the primer apparently comes in a "matte grey" finish that supposedly looks great with a grey or silver car. I'm thinking about taking this route as I really can't be bothered to paint anything.

I posted eBay links as to where you can get them (for the lowest price that I know of). The ones that come in the pack are the same size.
