Need a second opinion on some tires
My stock tires need to be replaced on my Yaris soon (before snow flies). Been looking at tire rack for some replacements and want to know what you think about these.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....OURS&tab=Specs The I'm wanting to get at least 40K out of these new tires, but I don't see anything online that tells you the average wear distance. thanks in advance. |

I know the battles between wheel width and diameter. Would the 195's be better suited for me? I do 60+ miles a day for work.

620's not bad for the tire wear rating. They have 185/60-15 tires in that price range with 700 or slightly more. The original Goodyear Eagle LS are rated 360, for reference.

I know that Toyota recommends 195's for this car, but what about putting a slightly over sized tire on there?
195's perhaps? I really need something in the 650's or better for long life and better MPH. your opinions please =) Trying to say around 60-65 per tire as well. |

I'm not sure where the idea of a 195 comes from as my OEMs were 185. That's what I've stuck with, as have the other 2 fellows that regularly punch out 50+ MPG tanks in the warm months.
The tire you have selected is decent but the tread wear on the pair I had (the TRZs) did not do well due to the mountain driving that I do. I replaced them with Kumho Solus KR-21s which seem to grip more but do quite well in snow and slush and still offer good glide distances. I'm only a few thousand into the Kumhos so I can't speak to their longevity, but so far I prefer them to the Yokohama AVIDs. They're a few dollars cheaper as well, and like the Yokohamas early wearing nets you a discount on the next set of tires thanks to their warranty.

Have you look at the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max? Supposedly these tires can save 2,600 miles worth of gas over the life of the tire and they are supposed to last 65.000.
I replaced my stock Potenza’s for Falken 912 and my mpg dropped big time plus they are wearing quick!!! I don’t think they will last more than 30.000 miles… There are good reviews of the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max, here is a link you can check. http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...13766&sw=false |

Want some long lasting tires, lol try these on for size. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....mpare1=yesLook at the warranty! 6 years or 100K! Tread should be good in rain and quiet, not sure about snow....Notice the clear path for water from center out, and blocks push water to edges. also a clean line in outer block to drain. I just have reservations about snow.
The Avid trz has more of a block pattern so yes it would be better in snow probably, I dont care to use directional tires though, limits rotation to one side only, but thats just me.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes Interesting that it guides 80% of the water all to one side, and it would trap some water in the inner half, due to no sipes leading water from groove outward. But should be a good tire also, especially for the money. |

I went from the factory potenzas to a 195 60 15 hankook and my milage dropped 4 mpg from factory I took them off and sold them! I put on the 185 60 15 good year assurance fuel max and my gas milage went up 3 mpg better than factory to 42 mpg and my car rides smoother and quieter than ever! I love the goodyears!
