Sand Blasting

So. I've got a set of old rims i want to restore because the previous owner did a crappy job of spray painting them.

I want to know if anyone, in socal preferably, that can quote me the price for sand blasting Four Rims. Thank you in advance.

If you know anyone with an air compressor, you can buy a sandblaster and the blasting media for cheap. You'll spend under $50 for it. Get a good set of goggles and a respirator too. Breathing that stuff is bad.

I sand blast stuff at home all the time (especially wheels).

harbor freight has a blaster kit you should be able to use twice maybe 3 times for about 25 bux...comes with media.

also, matco/mac/snapon have a good kit. and it uses media...i think it's some sort of peroxide pelets...but it's cheap. the gun is 50 bux and media is 10 bux a bag...25lb bags i think.

but if you want to have someone do it, take it to a local machine shop...not a mechanic. even a head shop or performance shop should be able to point you in the direction. they'll prob do it for 10/ea

Your other option can be your local powdercoating service.
They have to media-blast (similar to sandblasting) prior to the powdercoating
process. They even might have a color you could be interested in as well. My experience of affordability is if they are already running the color you choose then it's pretty cheap for them to do and they usually say to you cash or beer money for the job and off their books. They usually have a large selection of colors. You ask about the cost, if good then decide if there is a color, if good then drop off your wheels. They blast them perfectly clean then powdercoat them.
You pick them up shiny & new looking with a very durable finish. Just mount & balance the tires & enjoy.

my experience is that powdercoating, while better, is north of $200/set potentially more if they do a proper media blast. PLUS you can't have your tires on the wheels ($10 to unmount, $60 to remount and balance) and you obviously can't do it in a day

ive done several sets of wheels at this point and i can get them wire brushed, cleaned, primed, painted, and cleared in about 5-6 hours if i need to. wire brushes are $30, paint is about $25 for 3 cans of paint (primer, paint, clear (which you will maybe use half of)) and painters tape and old newspaper to mask off the tires is maybe $8 if you have to buy a newspaper

you can reuse the wire brushs to clean your calipers, drums, or any other metal part that rusts (i did that last week, actually) and you still have half a can of primer, paint, and clear if you want to do more wheels later

paint stripper....

Anyway. i'm buying some super advans sa3r for dirt cheap, but the previous owner did a shystie job on painting them with a rattle can. Point is i don't have the time or space to do the job myself, and on top of that i have a small budget if you know what i mean. Its an investment, so any recommendations would be nice for so-cal powder coating sounds like a good idea but pricey.

You can buy a can of paint stripper from o rileys. Its a few bucks you spray it on and in about 10 seconds the paint will bubble up and you just hose it off with water and comes off in chunks. Just repeat till you are down to bare metal. Then procede to primer and paint.

As far as the stuff at Hardor Freight. I made the mistake of buying a gravity feed blaster that's a piece of crap. It's a gun with a hopper attached to the top that you connect to a compressor. It sucked azz. Don't ever buy it.

From my experience with harbor freight your okay as long as the tool has no moving parts. Screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches hammers etc.
