07 Hatch 171K manual
actually my water pump looked perfect, but I already have a new one coming. I'll
put it in... my problem is definitely the cam timing gear. If I could I would get a mechanic to
install a regular non geared cam sprocket and do away with the entire VVTI system.
But I probably couldnt find the right fit, unless someone knows how to do this???
by the way... my AC compressor pulley bearing is bad... I dont need AC so am going to install a smaller belt and bypass the AC. Anyone know the exact size of a smaller belt for that???
otherwise I will measure with a string......

No need to measure - The Toyota part number is: 90916-02499 for the shorter one. You can also get a non-OEM one by having your auto parts store look up the one for a Yaris without AC.

A 1/2" ratchet with a 20" extension got mine off immediately. Didn't even really need any additional leverage. I also put a crowbar in the spokes of the pulley to hold it in place.

You could "rent" these by going to home depot / sears hardware / lowes, buying them, using them, then returning. I didn't see much use for a 1/2" ratchet, so I was quite thrilled to have gotten the install done without paying any additional money.
