Dad,

I'm in exactly the same boat as you (I also like to swap cars often). My year-old loaded '09 liftback is also worth $10K in trade. The car stickered at ~$16.5K. For the time being, it looks like we'll have American car levels of depreciation.

I blame the latest Toyota financing promos (and the UAW/government witch hunt) for the crappy resale values.

Yeah, anytime they put incentives on new cars, the used car values drop accordingly. It would be a great time to buy with no trade-in.

They have come up to $10,850 "unofficially" on trade-in allowance, and I think will take them up on that deal, if I can slip my wife a Valium.

I say "unofficially" because that is coming from my salesman, not from the used car appraiser.

We have aleady agreed on the price of the new Corolla S, and that is invoice price + TTL + $199.50 "processing fee." That comes to $19,046.61. (Sticker is $19,005). If I can get that deal on the new one and get $10,850 trade-in, I will consider that to be a decent deal and will probably go though with it. Of course, I will be getting the 0% interest for 60 months.

My monthly payment would only go up by $68, but I would have to make 13 more payments than I would if I kept the Yaris.

I hope we can find out about the supposed styling change for the 2011 Yaris. I will definitely share whatever I am able to find out.

Tom
