bored while driving
had a good 3 hour drive this morning with a few good rainstorms in the middle. during a downpour i was behind a Yaris sedan that was cruising right along and i thought to myself "if that Yaris can do it i can too". this made me curious, how different are the 2 body styles performance wise? i mean, bone stock, could my LB Yaris really do anything the sedan did? just a little curiosity out of boredom.

Horsepower, weight and aerodynamic drag are nearly identical for the two. They doubtless handle a bit differently with their different wheelbases.

You're right about the weight and wheelbase differences. I'm especially puzzled by why the sedan weighs LESS than the LB. I'll never understand that one.
Also I'm convinced there's slightly higher drag ratio on the LB than the sedan due to less of a slope angle on back window of the LB. It could probably also explain why the entire rear end gets filthy so quickly.

but what about stuff like ability to drive through heavy rain or (not heavy) snow or make turn in such conditions? (or stuff kind of like that)

As far as the rear end goes, I suspect there is a vacuum vortex formed behind the LB which causes the whole streamlined bubble effect that open bed pickup trucks benefit from. It would explain the dirt, and the similar drag coefficient.

rain ability is purely the tires (and alignment should be within spec) some absolutely chew through puddles and standing water, some are downright deadly. look for a set of MS tires with contiguous circumferential grooves, these are great in highway rain avoid MS tires that have tread blocks that interrupt the circumferential grooves. these mofo's eat puddles http://www.tyretest.com/pkw_sommerre...rip/index.html |

yup rain and snow are all about tires. Well, a small part might be suspension too, but mostly tires.
