A lot of people have painted this piece. Removal is easy. Remove the liner on the trunk lid and there's four 10mm, I think that's the size, nuts. Then just push it out from behind.

I plan on doing it to mine when I get in the paint booth for the other parts.

Its not hard to remove. You have to remove the plastic liner inside the trunk lid. Theres a few 10mm screws. And the rest are just plastic clips that hold it in place. Then you carefully pry it from the outside and that piece pops off. Then take it to a local body shop and have them paint it for you. I accidentally broke one of the clips prying too hard but it has enough screws that will hold it in place anyways.

If you want to try to paint it yourself you can try this place

http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

I have bought paint in the spray can from them before to do minor bodywork for friends and its always a perfect match. Just make sure you lightly sand it. When i had mine painted i think the guy did no prep work i have a bit of orangepeel on it but you cant tell unless your up close.

I've noticed some local Yarii have this piece in plain black plastic as opposed to the chrome on mine. Chrome wouldn't hold paint well. I'd go to the dealer or wrecker and get a black one, prime it, and colour match paint it. Also need to eliminate the chrome found in the tail-lights and of course the stinking badges.

Did mine too. The only chrome left is on the remaining badges and the exhaust tips. Personally, I like the color matched 'look'. My wifes 09' Corolla S trunk trim piece is color matched to the car as well.
