Mexico's labor is far lower than Japan's of course. The Yaris costs much more to build (not just labor wise, but it is more expensively engineered). Which is why it is impossible to offer a $9,995 model like Nissan and Hyundai does. So who cares if Versa beats Yaris sales, it's an uneven playing field. So many people look at one thing - bottom line pricing/biggest bang for the buck.

More expensively built...how so?(I believe Toyota puts extensive engineering efforts into their products---I'm confident that Nissan does too) The wage and benefits one pays their workers will define the cost of the product.....hence Mexico & Korea. |
