Believe it or not, the hood cowl area is a very high pressure zone, which can provide the engine with lots of fresh air. :)
In stock car racing, the front grilles are only used for engine and brake cooling. There's actually a small cutout in the cowl where air is forced into the airbox, through the filter and into the carburetor. |
