I commute 60 miles a day 5x week, so it might be nice to lose some of the highway wander I get.
You will lose all of the wander on the highway.

I used to commute with my Yaris also and I hated the wander which made me feel less than safe at highway speeds, particulary when comparing it to my other car I had at the time which was a Celica.
However, after installing just a rear sway bar, the wander stopped and I then felt perfectly secue on the highway. It also made the car more fun to drive all around.

IMO, if one only does one mod, install a rear sway bar!

BTW, keep in mind that Toyota also sells a Yaris rear sway bar but, it's over priced compared to the one micro image sells and the quality is no different. The Toyota sway bar has a TRD label on it and we all know how a TRD label jacks up the price on anything!

swaying

Well i have read this forum alot and was concerned about the unstable feeling on the highway so I added the TRD swaybar a few months ago,it does definately make the car handle better but the feeling on the highway hasnt improved much.I am hesitant to put too much money into solving this problem. Some people say to lower the car and add wider tires but what if I put all this money into it and it still doesnt improve?
I love alot of things about this car, like the reliability ,gas miliage is out of this world with a best of 58 mpg(Canadian Gallon) even love the seats but just cant get over the feeling of ewanddering,if its the least bit windy I am hesitant to take it on the highway(which I am required to do for work)
I have owned small cars before,my last car was an accent which isnt much bigger and although It wasnt half the care as far as reliability goes it was MUCH more stable, any suggestions?

heres a pic of mine from the back you can kinda see it no loss of ground clearence (19mm)
it does help with the wonder as everyone is saying but say your on a bridge or high wind area theres nothing you can really do about that
cuz the car is so light basically you cant stop all the sway 100% but a great investment

I honestly don't notice any sway in my car, are you all gripping the steering wheel strong enough? Even when there was 12mph winds I didn't feel much, if any, sway going 60-65 mph on the highway.

I assume people are also refering to body roll when making turns including changing lanes at highway speeds.
The same thing that is the causes the body roll is the same thing that cause a Yaris to wander about at bit on the highway.
Without a rear sway bar, all. yaris' are prone to this.

You can't make a Porche out of a Yaris but, a rear sway bar cures both of these things.
Of course, good tires are a must.

If you like how you car handels now, you will love it with a sway bar!

Anti-sway bar will cure 90% of this issue. The drive will be much more relaxing and cornering will also be improved due to decreased body roll.

Contact Micro Image for a selection or check your dealer for the TRD bar. They're a no-brainer to install too!

With 16x7's, 205/50/16's, and a rear anti-sway bar, I still had highway wander. After experimenting with several different brands of tyres, I discovered that the tyre makes all the difference in eliminating wander. I have virtually no wander now... and I'm not running the anti-sway bar!

Just thought i'd share my two cents, If you have New tires, it could be the tread catching the groves on the hightway, if the highway is grooved that is. I had a set of tires with really deep and wide treads and it would always catch on the highway groves and make it seem as if the car was swaying like in high winds.

A few days ago after reading this thread, I ordered a TRD bar from Micro Image. Keeping in mind I have my rear seat out, including the structure that it mounts to (that tubular thing, besides mounting the seat it probably also helps tie things together). Today I had it out on the interstate, and for the first time it tracked like it was on rails! Like others have opioned, the difference is dramatic, and the installation was super simple. I spent more time getting it in the air enough to get underneath then the actual install. Can't speak to any difference in cornering, but on the highway it is now MUCH better.

As said before, Toyota should install one during assembly. The car is sooooo much more relaxing to drive on the highway. It was downright scary to pass a semi on a gusty day when stock.

There is a definate reason for this.

Most all car maufactures purposely dumb down their inexpensive models because there is a much larger margin of profit in the more expensive models.
So, one way to get people to purchase the more expensive models is to make them better handeling by comparison.

Yes, they could have made the rear sway bar standard on the Yaris but, it would be shooting themselves in the foot.

BTW, back in the 1970s, Ford admitted that it only cost them about $500 more to build the top of the line "Galaxie 500" over their low end "Pinto".
However, they sold the Galaxie 500 for thousands more.

Just installed the Ultr Racing 19mm bar this afternoon. It makes a world of difference. I also noticed that when hitting small bumps, they seem to be smoothed out a lot more. Worth every penny. And, the shipping/service from Garm is great!!
