Still...the number of cars i have seen with aftermarket alarms with electrical gremlins can be counted on the fingers and toes of both hands and feet.

did the owners do the work themselves? Unless I had the technical aptitude of CTScott I'd let a pro do that type of install. I've had an aftermarket alarm on all my cars and never had any problems.

When the freaking alarm goes off in the middle of the night in a car down the street for no reason theres usually no one to ask who installed it.. I suspect the "pros" who do the typical install have a very minimal ammount of expertise at it. Probably for every 25 installs theres one or two cars with a problem. I dont live in a high crime area (although I work in one) but I have a hard time imagining a Yaris would be a target for theft. I guess if you turbo ed it that would qualify it as a target. Another excellent reason not to do that. While we're on the subject of things not to do to your car like aftermarket alarms and turbo s I might as well mention DONT WASH YOUR ENGINE WITH A HOSE! My neighbor bought a used BMW R1100RT last summer and just HAD TO spray the engine with degreaser and hose it off. We spent a month trying to start it. We took it to pieces finding what was wrong (shorted Hall sensor, that or the wiring to it)
