UPDATE on my Hail Damage

This hail happened the same day as the horrible Henryville, Indiana tornado just north of Louisville, KY.

Progressive Ins. has been swamped with damage reports, and the guy that inspects finally came by Saturday. I had counted 6 on the roof and 1 on the hood myself.

Turns out there were 21 on the roof alone! Another on the hood I can barely see, and many on the right side. I think he's wrong about some of them on the right rear panel-- I thought they were spot welds from the Toyota factory.

The damage totaled $1105.00! He issued me a check immediately less $100 deductible.

Here's the thing: Maybe I'm just dumb, but I didn't know when doing the Paintless Dent Repair that they had to remove the body panels and on the roof they will be removing the headliner to fix the dents? They are very tiny dents. That kind of makes me nervous. I guess I thought PDR was a suction-cup type of thing. He also said it would take an entire day.

PDR does require removing trim if you can't access the inside of the panel. A door, for instance, can be repaired without removing the trim because you can fit a rod between the glass and door skin.

Also, as you said on the right quarterpanel, there wouldn't be factory visible spot welds on the exterior-most surface of a car.

Thanks for enlightening me! Maybe those dings on my right-rear panel were prior dings, as I noticed them the same day I brought the car home from the dealer (new). They are very hard to see, you almost have to squat down to the same level to see them and at a certain angle. Just looking at the car straight-on you can't see them at all. They are all in a row, 3 or 4 of them.

With all due respect (RIP Billy Mays!) I've tried a couple of things he hawked when he was still with us, and none of them worked!

And it's not like I can keep that $905 check for myself, it's made out to me and Toyota Financial.

I'd have to see a picture of where they are on the car.. I have never heard of a car coming from the factory with anything less than a perfectly smooth finish.

Too bad you just can't pocket the loot and live with a few small dents. Never know, you could go through the hassel to get it fixed and another hailstorm could crop up the next week! I'm guessing the shop that does this is pretty backed up these days...

Maybe dings isn't the right word...very slight indentations/swirls in the finish. The finish IS smooth. Most people wouldn't even notice them. I'll see if I can get a picture.

To be honest, I almost didn't turn my claim in as I thought it only had $200-$300 damage at the highest. Just looking you'd never guess anything was wrong. I'm more upset about a door ding I got at Walmart when it was brand-new than these hailstone dings....and as long as I keep my cars, these dings won't even be noticed 10 years from now - rust will take over first. And darn it, the place where I have the door ding from Walmart, there is no hail damage on that panel so nothing will be done there.
