only ~looks~ like a performance mod...

Since a quiet car is a priority with the little lady, I installed a twin tip on the pumpkin muffler to make the car ~look~ like it has a performance exhaust...

Got a cheap twin tip off of ebay and some pipe reducers from Pep Boys to slip fit over the stock pipe, and flux welded it on. I was even able to use the stock side bracket which helped to support the original pipe. It's on nice and solid.

Total cost: only $20

Nice! Did it change the sound at all?

Thanks, Kim, so do I. Those wheels are right out of the 1960's.

Hey Garm.

No... the sound is just a tad deeper but basically stock, nice and quiet.

I just installed my Tanabe muffler from micro. Its a deeper rumble and not at all a nuisance. It sounds nothing like a tin can or too loud or brash. My girlfriend even likes it Around highway speeds it almost sounds just like stock.

I want to add dual tips to my muffler, too. I just don't want to hack off my nice stainless tailpipe!

Looks great, though.

Which ebay vendor was this?

My black tail pipe didn't stand up to the Canadian winter, and is all rusted to shit.

I thought that too, until I discovered that the stock tailpipe isn't stainless steel. It's carbon steel with a thin aluminized coating on it to minimize rust.

Thirty-Nine is not currently running OEM exhaust.

Nice looking tip.

It wasn't a regular commercial dealer. Just a private party seller who happened to be selling one old unused tip from around the 1980's. It was $15 with free shipping and I'm a real cheapskate. Just checked ebay, and there aren't any others for sale like that one. If you keep a lookout, some other old ones might show up, but they won't be from regular dealers.

It's very cheaply made as the pipes are riveted onto the splitter. I just sprayed the whole thing high temp BBQ black inside and out because the chrome tubes are rust prone.

I have the OEM Toyota chrome exhaust tip. It is double walled and puts out a nice tone.
That looks real good. Just watch out for rust. Is flux welding like sweating pipes together. Did you use a MAP torch?

It's electric arc welding where the flux is contained within the welding wire, and where the wire is automatically fed into the hot arc and immediately turns molten...

It's like a hot glue gun for metal.

Looks super, scoot.

The clean smooth lines of the 2nd generations look soo much nicer than the 3rds.
