TRDsparks and Micro Image are the only two I deal with for Yaris parts, both have great stuff.

It's ashamed the TRD intake is so pricey though.

TRD does it right by including the hydrolock protector. Do they make a short ram intake? Don't think I've come across one yet.

If you take the comparable product and add this crazy looking hydrolock protector which retails between 50 and 80 bucks you are looking at 300 bucks.. seems fair.. basically you get the top level brand (in line with STI, Mugen, etc) as a free bonus

I do not have much experiance with TRD stuff but their rear sway bar, struts plus springs, and intake are priced in line with the competition or cheaper

As with most TRD intakes, it's a rebadged AEM.

You are correct that AEM/K&N (same company now since K&N bought AEM Intake division) make the TRD USA intake for the Yaris. However the TRD product is different from the AEM product, AEM no longer provide the water bypass valve on their intake because they had too many problems with the foam degrading and getting sucked into the engine. They revised the bypass and made it a bit less prone to ingestion, but there are still cases where it gets sucked in. You won't find this bypass on new AEM intakes and you'll notice they added this disclaimer to the revised product:

"The AEM Air Bypass Valve is NOT for use on forced induction vehicles"

All of the failures I've seen have actually been on naturally aspirated cars, this was a very common issue on the First Gen Scion xB and xA, there have been a few documented cases of engine failures caused by this part failing. This is why I do not recommend the TRD USA intake for the Yaris.

This valve issue - does it relate to exposure to wet environment or just to aging (like needs be replaced every year)?
