Phasing! It's all about phasing.

I know about phasing in my own way of thinking, from...

Subwoofer > Lows < Mids > Tweeters

But I'm confused on if it's a left to right phasing?

Could you expand and explain a little bit more about phasing, please

Think phasing for imaging detail and amplitude for imaging placement.

With the P-99, don't be afraid to play with the amplitude of the left and right on the four way crossovers.

Oh! It looks like I've sold one of my big amps. I'll be replacing it with a full range D class piece 1/4 of the weight.

This is what I did today...

By putting my cell-phone on speaker (on arrow 3) Playing Pink Noise
I get a physical sense of where the center image would be.

Then I go through the process of playing each frequency induvidually and
adjusting my EQ, Left & Right to match the location of the Pink Noise played by my cell-phone.

I did it once this afternoon and works really good, after comparing my previous set up (Left & Right EQ by ear)
improved the center image and I believe I can go further out one more time
by projecting the physical location of my Pink Noise source to the left,
therefore placing the center image even further outside the windshield.

We'll see.

Well after trying and trying didn't work and I found out why!

My right tweeter is not working at all!

Trouble shout all the way down from the RCA to the amp and the signal at the wires, every thing was fine, my right tweeter is not working!

So after contacting Hybrid Audio Technologies for help the Founder (Scott E. Buwalda) replies back withing 7 minutes...

That's is what I call "Costumer Support"

Try that with Pioneer and/or Hertz! I've done it before and takes about 2 weeks to get a reply.

This is why I like the product. The support is great.

Update, I sold both of my big amps and am readying to sell my 4 channel. The next experiment in sound will be to hear a vertically bi amped system.

What I've done is to purchase two 5 channel amplifiers. I'll be bridging the first four channels to get a more powerful two channels. Then using the three channels to work the left side speakers. And then logically the same thing will be done to the right side speakers. I'll have a mono subwoofer amplifier on the sub... I'm taking one ID eight out of the car and simply using a single 8 inch subwoofer set up. That's all about space for me.

I'm sure I'm going to see my gas mileage go up after having remove these giant amps. It took me all of about five minutes to take them both out.

Hey Derick,

Thoughts on this idea...

You know my bit one? I need to have it fixed. I'm thinking that instead of selling it to use it to make my home system completely active.

What would Derick do?

I'm very new to Hi-Fi home systems, I would say sell the bit-one and get a big right & left EQ

I don't see my P99 at home it would be overwhelming don't you think?

Sounds like a metamorphosis of an Infinity 4 door sedan G35 and a Yaris! LOL

I would like to try an old 10" Solo-Baric under the glove compartment! I think it uses about the same volume of (2) i6SWs

Scott's G was nicely finished. He spent a LOT of time on the tune. It's nothing that can't be topped sound wise by another well tuned vehicle.

What I've learned over the past several years being very close to these high-end competition systems is that the interpretation of good sound is so widely varied... Secret is to get all speakers phase correct and then tonally correct. The first is the most important. Everything else will fall and place given some time with the tune.

There have only been two vehicle systems that have truly make me wholeheartedly enjoy the experience of the music...and Scott's G and even Black Betty aren't in that number (still sounding spectacular mind you).

I say give the Solo 10 a try!

Is it possible that Sub and Lows would end up on the same phase? or my ears are tricking me that sounds better, is there a way to check phase mechanically or with a method? you know I'm doing it through the P99 menu and not switching the wires at the terminals of each speaker.

To me phasing on the low end it's more obviously than with the Mids and tweeters.

Any suggestions? I really need to dig in more about phasing.

SQ, I think a good set up of separates at home or even a good all in one receiver would negate the need for the Bit One at home. You preamp section is much more sophisticated on a full size good quality receiver. I'm partial to Denon or Yamaha receivers, but that's just me. I have Denon upstairs and down, here at home both with Klipsch Reference loud speakers.

It's not that I need the bit one at home. I just want to see what it can do.

I can get a modern receiver and will at some point for the TV area. But for my listening area, I am really enjoying the vintage setup I have. I'm also only listening in 2 channel. So any "spectacular" 432.7 channel home theater receiver is moot and a waste of money. That being said, I would like to do a side by side with my Nikko separates and the newer stuff for two channel work. The towers I have can take a LOT of power. There's no way I can test them out to their maximum potential currently since on my vintage setup, I can only get up to the halfway point on the preamp before the music becomes too loud to bear...

The really nice thing about the newer stuff though is that I can connect or stream music. I'd still rather plug in a Blu ray and play music that way though.

Naw...vintage solid state.

For some reason I don't have a pic of my setup. My phone's microphone is strange when taking video so sound on video is wonky.

Pre-amp:

Amplifier:

SACD player:

Tuner (not used):

Towers (without the covers on them):

You can tell that the speaker tower pics are old. You see the red color in the grill of the Yaris? That's the old hella three tone horn...at least 2 years ago now.

I should probably update things...

This is my listening environment at home. All of this cost me less than $450 to cobble together. The sound is great.
