Do Backup Cameras Protect You? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Actually, the last vehicle I drove with a back-up camera, I tore the driver's side mirror off using it! I was backing out from an underground garage and one of the pillars ripped the damn thing off!

Luckily it was a work rental and had full insurance, but that only solidified my belief that they are useless.

That said, I do find the back-up sensors that beep when you get close to an object to be helpful as they area audio warning and don't distract you from looking where you should!
