There's a couple schools of thought. One is to run high quality synthetic and change once per year. Another is to run normal grade oil and change every 3 months. In the US, oil is so cheap, a lot of us use synthetic. I dont think a Yaris motor cares either way.

I loose track of all the arguments myself. I mostly just use whatever quality dino oil is on sale with regular change intervals. The grade should be printed on your oil cap.
I do believe that there are advisements against switching to synthetic on older high milage engines. If this is true, given yours is 11 years old, it may warrant digging deeper into this thought.

A synthetic 10w-30 should be fine for your car, change every 10,000kms or once a year.

still different reasons so far.....i had read about mineral vs sythetic......anyway. my haynes book about yaris it tells me to fill 0w30 or 5w30....which for my country in summer i think is too thin, cause of very high temperatures, still on the cap of my car, i doesnt says what oil should i give.

Walmart: 5w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic 5 quart container= $25
Good for at least 5000 mile intervals. This car doesn't require much thought when it comes to oil. Just realized you're not in the USA, but still food for thought for people stateside. |

That is because there is no definitive answer. Most veterans of this forum roll their eyes whenever yet another oil question is raised and move on. Hence the reason this post is only the 7th reply.
