Sure. Why not?

- Could you use the stock MAF tube instead of chopping the Weapon R?
No, it wouldn't work because the Weapon R intake tube adapts the 2.5 BLOX velocity stack to the 2.25 throttle body flange. And second, the rubber intake tube isn't rigid enough to support the freestanding stack and filter...

- How does the quality of the BLOX compare to other less expensive kit, e.g. the stuff at AutoZone/AutoValue/NAPA/etc?
I don't know about any of the other stuff, but BLOX is first rate. The intake profile is parabolic, and is complete to 180 degrees. It's a beautifully simple practical design...

I especially like the BLOX dry filter as it has no oil issues. It perfectly seals the stack and removes instantly and easily for cleaning.

- Does having the stock MAF on a 2.5" tube cause issues?
Nope, no issues whatsoever.
This is because the tube the MAF is in is 2.25". You can see the reduction in diameter takes place in front of the MAF.

I was told (on these forums) that the slower air velocity in a larger diameter tube would lead to wonky behavior from the ECU. I'm assuming you haven't had issues to this point, yes?
You were told correctly. The intake diameter can be anything you want upstream...

...as long as it reduces down to the proper 2.25 diameter where the air flows over the MAF.

Since I'm here, I took a whack at grinding one of the runner entrances. The amount of weld I can remove is limited so as not to weaken the manifold, but at least I was successful in removing the protruding weld swirls as I'm sure they cause turbulence right at the critical point of entry. I was also able to open up the entrance a bit wider for a freer flow.

This is before for contrast...
