Yaris HB's seem rare on Long Island, a lot of Versa's though
There's one, nope a Nissan Versa..
There's one nope a Mazda, is that...nope a Honda. That's a Yaris I think, yup a sedan. There's 9 million people on Long Island NY, I drove 1200 miles since I bought my 07 HB & have seen a total of drumroll....4 others .. Pretty exclusive , how's that for some somewhat boring & useless info ..but seriously there's like 10 Nissan Versa's to every Yaris HB.I had friends say " I've never seen that model ' neato ! ![]() . |

As you stated perhaps rare in LI but they are all over the place where I live.
There is one that lives about 3 blocks from me looks just like mine. And about 2 weeks ago I counted no less than 3, 3dr LB's while I was out running errands. Oh, and the 3 I saw, were all pizza delivery vehicles, two completely logo wrapped and the 3rd with the light up magnetic thing on the roof. YARIS HATCHBACK - THE choice of pizza delivery personnel across the country! Last edited by NEexpat; 03-12-2014 at 07:11 PM. |

Versas are more common probably because they cost a LOT less than Yarises.
I remember when shopping for my Yaris, I decided to look at the Versa for "due diligence". Walking up to the demo car, I immediately disliked it's styling (especially that triangular shaped C-pillar). Then, it only took about 10 seconds sitting in the car to thoroughly dislike the interior. I think Nissan took a LOT of shortcuts to undercut the Yaris by something like $2000 (?). There is just something cheap feeling about it... If all you are looking for is a transportation appliance (which most Americans are at this price point), then the Versa is just fine. I actually would prefer to like the car I drive and cars mean much more than just an appliance so, of course, I went with the Yaris... |

and two, those who might be one or more of those things but also can't afford anything else. OP, don't take this the wrong way (as I love visiting the Tri-State area and don't mean this as an insult), but I would think that given the level of taxation and the COL in your general area, the piece of the pie that MOST people in this market segment have for a vehicle would be less than in other areas where there are fewer (or at least less burdensome) demands on the consumer, and thus the attractiveness of the Versa (not the physical car, but the prospect of ownership).

My little Yaris is somewhat unique in my area. I have yet to see another one like it around here.

While I see the occasional second-gen hatchback on the road and a number of Echos (and Prius Cs) on my college campus, the third generation is like a unicorn around here--in fact, the local Toyota dealership has had only two SEs in stock since at least December. But the Fit is EVERYWHERE. I remember seeing at least one third-gen on every five-mile outing when I was visiting some relatives in southern California over the summer.

Prisus's are very common here, lots of Rav 4's too. I did see 2 more second gen Hatches I saw white & a black one since I posted this, drove 50 miles a day too Ebony & Ivory together in perfect harmony. Interesting thing is every HB I saw was a different color.. far out huh ?
It must be the magical goddess of beauty & elegance Yaris herself blessing me from above with such an interesting array of colors to view & none repeated. Yeah that's it, far out
