Yes, you could. 14's might be cheaper though. Plus having the extra sidewall helps on those days where you find obstacles buried in the snow

My 08 sedan came with 15" alloys and 185-60/15 rubber. I found used 14" steelies with winter boots (175-65/14) and find it a good package. It was cheaper when the boots needed replacement too. Ground clearance may be slightly increased with the 14's. This is good considering my drop. Less lip plowing is preferred.

I need winter tires! I've got an extra set of 15" steel rims in the garage. Car is on tein s tech springs, so 1.9" drop all around. What tire specs should I be looking at?

I, too, am dropped on s techs. I just put a new set of 185/60r15 Blizzaks on my spare set of steelies. We should have no problem with our drop and that tire size - especially on a stock steel wheel width.

you can go with 175/65R15 for better snow traction instead of 185/60R15. but i'd say they both work well.

You actually sit a bit lower on 175/65R14, as the overall diameter is a bit smaller than 185/60R15. Personally, i went with 185/65R14.
