Takata Airbag in 2007-2008 Yaris

Just got a recall from T saying these cars have faulty passenger airbags. I bought an 08 for my son. Sedans an hatchbacks.

I thought Yari were not affected by this issue.

What says the forum?

There are other post on here concerning this new recall. The original one for the drivers side did not affect us. We are however impacted by the newest recall concerning the passenger side airbags manufactured by Takata.

Huh kind of a moot point given that it will be quite some time until parts are available.

I guess the passenger bag can be disabled?

How would you disable it?

I just took mine in for the 3 back in middle June. 1 day service, they took the whole day though. I was forced to take it in finally because the airbag light was on. I did the hack to get the code and it was the spiral cable. The recall work fixed the airbag light.

So this is a Fourth problem ?

There used to be a switch on older cars to do that so the airbag wouldn't kill a child or infant.

Ahh...

I was thinking something from the factory like the 2003 Tacoma I had.

So is this an additional recall ontop of the 3 main ones?

Usually a switch is only in a vehicle without a rear seat. Newer cars have occupancy or actual weight sensors to determine if the airbag should be turned on or off.

So...shouldn't Tpyota be deactivating these airbags while we wait for parts?

Everyone asks this question (I know I did) and from what I gather, the answer is no. The webpage for the recall recommends you don't travel with passengers and if that isn't possible, they can arrange alternate transportation. Thought it was amazing that it would say that rather than offer to disable the potentially faulty airbag.

I suppose the odds are a million to one for the airbag exploding?

Then again, it can only explode in an accident. How many accidents and how many exploded?

I know I know! I ll take my boss for a ride and kill him with the airbag!

LEGAL MURDER!

Wow LOL.

I think there are something like a dozen deaths. With 50+ million potentially affected units, the chances are pretty low. Nonetheless, I'm sure you, like me, want that POS out asap.

I have enough to worry about with earthquakes, meteors, super volcanoes, cops, etc. Last thing I need is a faulty airbag taking me out lol.

Right 50 million units.

But how many deployments? Probably a Lot less like maybe a thousand?

That ups the odds.
