4-Point Cage Idea

What do you guys think about this? Took about 5min in MSPaint so get off my back about the bad artwork!

Basically, a simple four point cage with a harness bar for the driver. Mounts down the B-Pillar for the front mounts, and back in the hatch for the rear mounts. Cage design and opening allows for the backseat and storage area to still be functional with minimal compromise.

All feedback is appreciated.

Your back seat is NOT functional with a cage, unless you want the person sitting behind you with a cracked skull or toothless.

It would be highly unsafe having anyone back there, even with roll bar padding, especially behind the driver.

If you get hit from the side or at any angle, or roll over your head goes into the bar. You head is not restrained, and rear bench seats do not hold your body in place very well.

Speaking from experience, the padding does next to nothing in even small impacts. Don't believe me? I used to drive this.

I hit my head on the padded bars a number of times jumping it. It would be ugly in an accident. I should have gotten a racing style seat for it






There is a reason why cars with roll cages use harnesses and racing seats. This car is not the safest thing to be inside in the event of an accident anyway. Unless you have proper racing seats, harnesses, etc. then a cage can be very dangerous. Or you could just wear a helmet every day.

oh, i thought we were talking about daily driving with some fast cornering. i didn't think we were talking about accidents. my bad. then yeah, i don't think padding will help much in a serious accident.

The problem is that is when accidents happen. A 4 pt. cage isn't something you remove and replace everytime you go for a spirited drive.

The cage istelf is fine. A 4 pt is cool for daily driving if you have harnesses and seats to go with it. And never put anyone in the back under the illusion that is is safe.

The only problem with the harnesses is if you ever get trapped in the car, it could be a very bad scene.

I have a seat and harness ready to go in the car as soon as I find a seat bracket for it so that's covered. Agreed that a rollbar is bad for daily driving unless wearing a helmet. However, with a four point, it should be simple to implement a removable cage for daily driving.
