One day of not buying gas is not going to effect the price. As you said, it fluctuates all the time. Oddly enough it spikes around holiday times and then resumes to a "normal" level. The simple fact is that you need gas for your car to drive. Why are the bigwigs going to sweat about one day when they know you need that gas. There are tons of people who don't buy gas on a daily basis. You really think enough people participate in the boycott for their to be a significant drop? If anyone really wanted to boycot they should make it a month where everyone uses public transportation instead of their cars.

What public transpo? I have lived in 6 different cities and only one had any kind of real public bus/train system. Where I live now just has a few little electric buses to SLOWLY take tourists outlet shopping downtown...

And those of us living in the sticks... we have to buy horses maybe? The only public transportation here are school buses!
