Wheels that are not heavier than oem?
I haven't shopped for wheels in probably a decade. So I wanted to see what you guys thought about this. Is it difficult to find high quality aftermarket wheels, that are not heavier than factory alloys? I'd like to buy some at some point, but I don't want any weight increase. They can weigh the same, but not more.

Depends on what size you want and how much you're willing to pay. OEM steelies are ~15lbs. There's tons of options at or below that weight, just depends on what looks good to you and how deep your wallet is. Going up one inch in diameter is almost always heavier than going wider, cheaper wheels are almost always heavier.
Tire Rack has the ability to sort by size, weight, price, etc. The holy grail for 15" alloys is the Enkei RPF1. Only 9.5 lbs per corner for the 41mm offset but almost USD 1,000 for a set. You can find some OEM tires from other brands that are comparable in weight (or lighter) than steelies as well. Mini Cooper Imola wheels (5-hole phone dials) are ~12lbs and can be found on craigslist/ebay/salvage yards for around USD100 each. Miata wheels have the same bolt pattern but a much lower offset. Not recommended unless you know what you're dealing with inside the wheel wells. |
