I wasn't sure if it would work or not precisely because of the security issues they ran into. Although from the sounds of it they had their resident electrical wizard wire in the immobiliser from the Corolla to the Yaris (somehow) and then modify the wiring loom at the front for the starter and alternator.
I'm amazed they didn't have any CAN issues and that the rest of the modules just happily talked to the immobiliser transplanted from the Corolla and the Corolla ECU. I would have thought the dash would light up like it was Christmas. Now someone just needs to do a 2ZR/6 speed swap into an AWD Yaris - now that would be one hell of a rally car. Especially if you could put some mud tyres on it.
