It's final mission

About 6 years ago I bought a very used 2010 Liftback for my then 16 year old daughter. She faithfully drove it for nearly 4.5 years. About 18 months ago we felt she had earned the privilege of a newer car. So we was gifted her my wife's '19 Corolla. So for the past year and a half the ol' Yaris has mostly just sat around. I have driven it some just to keep her viable. But sitting in front of the house has mostly been her primary job.

The only significant issue we have had out of her was a rotted out rear end. I briefly thought it might take her off the road permanently as rear ends, new or used are very difficult to come by. Thankfully with some perseverance and luck I was able to locate a clean rear end from an xD. A couple of hours and a couple of beers later me and a buddy had her rolling again.

In a few days my youngest kid turns 16. This will be his car. So as of late I have been rehabilitating her and getting up to speed for her next journey in life.

- Oil change
- Transmission service
- Coolant change along with a new thermostat
- Brake fluid change
- New front brakes and rotors
- New rear brakes
- New lower control arms with new ball joints
- New outer ball joints
- New sway bar links
- New front and rear struts/shocks
- New spark plugs, serpentine belt, valve cover gasket
- Rebalance tires and an alignment

And finally a good bath inside and out.

At 14 years old and 168k hard earned miles, she begins what might be her final mission in life. My hope is that she will serve my kid well for a couple of years or so. Then she can ride into the sunset with her head held high having been a faithful servant to our family.

Final mission? It's a Yaris. Keep her around for the grandkids!

In 2 years or less, I will likely be retiring. Without a commute gas mileage becomes less of a factor. When that time comes my plan is to give him my Corolla Hatchback and use my Tacoma as my daily. No need for the Yaris at that point.

Well when that time comes you should have no problem selling it. It looks in great shape and you obviously maintain it well.

She's got quite a few bumps and bruises that the white color hides well from a distance. Most of them where there when we bought it. But the interior is great and she's mechanically solid

Just an update. My son got his learner's permit back in September. He's doing great and so is the ol' Yaris.

It's official. The Yaris is in retirement. I recently gave my '22 Corolla hatchback to my son, bought my wife a '25 Corolla hatchback Nightshade and I took her '22 Corolla SE sedan as my daily.

It's been a great car. 16 years old and 172k miles. It never stranded either of my kids. She's been a warrior. Hard to say what her future holds.
