Fastest I've been is 55 mph. Gas is 3.50 U.S. 55 is plenty fast, 'specially when I filled up last week at 3.09. Tho, I still get passed by dualies hauling campers at 85 mph -- clearly richer than I.

I still can't figure it out. I travel an Interstate during my commute to work and people are blowing past me like I am in low gear. How do they afford to run there big ass SUV's like that all week long?

Got me. I remember Last year (when gas was over 3 bucks) I was passed by an SUV doing at least 75 on a normal super II highway hauling a cherry 69 camaro. I thought, good god, he'd get better gas millage driving the cool car at the those speeds rather than towing the damn thing.

As long as I still see that kind of behavior I will *know* that gas is still pretty fucking cheap.

Oddly, we small car drivers see a better return the more gas goes up. The difference between 2 bucks a gallon and 3 bucks a gallon is 10 bucks per fill up for us. Where as, those poor suckers driving 20 gallon tanks are paying 20 bucks more.

Typically speaking, all cars are designed to go about 400 miles on a tank -- so they don't ever get anything for the money -- and every cent adds up quick the more gas you have to dump into the tank.

Oh and gas will get up to 4 bucks yet. Yea, we'll be paying about 40 bucks to fill up, but the avg car with a 25 gallon tank will be paying 100 bucks to fill up. That would be a 1/4 of my income to drive to work a week -- if you don't think that's much -- In the United States, that's 58 million people making less than 20,000 a year.

I think you are right, but I really hop we are both wrong.

And if you just jump the income to 25,000, that comes close to 100 million people that spend a big chunk of change on gasoline. FYI, for all those people out there that think we should be a lot better off than we are. :) Our car culture is definitely headed for some kind of wall.

On my way to work I see all kinds of big ass pickups parked in folks yards with for sale signs on them. I never could figure out why folks buy F350, Diesel, Super Duty, 4X4 pickups and never haul anything other then groceries in the back.

True. But I never see any more than one person in a Yaris either (and I'm starting to see a bunch of 'em -- along with priuses) that can comfortably seat four. If there was a smaller car with better mileage just to haul my ass around, I would have bought it. Assuming, of course, it was the well designed, high quality, car the Yaris already is. :)
