I finally got the insurance company's response to the value of my car and whatnot. They valued it about $700 more than I paid for it! Unfortunately, since I put no money down and my interest rate is sort of high, I owe about $500 more than the total settlement ($1000 when my deductible is included). The good news is I bought GAP insurance and it will cover that $1000, so I will just walk away from my car.

I am considering buying it back for the salvage value, but I haven't been told what they want for it yet (hopefully I'll know in the next day or two). I figure if it is under $1000 then I'll buy it back and part it out....there's still a lot of good, useable parts left on it.

Now I need to start shopping for a new '10 Yaris!

Heh....it was quite a ride. The Yaris held up very well, all things considered. The front end did take the hit better than I thought, but it was a glancing blow and not a direct head on with the guardrail, so that probably helped.

I felt so strongly about how safe a Yaris is that I bought another one a few weeks after this accident. It's been just over a year now and I still love it. I only hope I don't get into another bad wreck like that!
