I was going to try for a thoughtful response. I have an iPad and find it incredibly useful on a daily basis.
PK, your predictable and incessant bashing of the product is off topic with respect to the OP's question.

It's all good, it's all good
All I was trying to say is that if anyone is interested in getting an ipad directly from the horse's mouth, they're shaving off $100 on last year's model. I've never seen Apple do it before (except with the iPhones), but not on their computer products, not even on their iPods. |

^ As if we didn't get your point yet.
At least someone likes me. It's that kind of a day.

OK, where is the poster who said he bought his iPad 2 weeks ago?
Apple just said they will honor the $100 off for iPad first gen. if you bought your iPad 2 weeks ago. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...6S42.DTL&tsp=1 |

I agree with PK about Apple's tactics and tendency to use proprietary hardware, connectors and delay features so they can sell another unit etc. At one point, many many years ago, I was considering Apple until I found out how restrictive they are. This is the sole reason why I don't buy their products.

What a surprise, pk
One thing though, that Macs do better than anyone else IMO. The photography blogs look way, way, way better on a MAC. Or an iPad for that matter. Just sayin' |

I find it ironic that the people who want to bash the iPad aren't the least bit curious how owners who like it actually use it, or why they like it.
I can appreciate why others don't need it or don't want it, but the reverse seems not to be true. Interesting. There are a couple of things I don't like about it, but that's true (at the least) for every electronic device I have ever owned. I'm not an Apple fan, by the way; I don't own a laptop or a desktop from them. And when I get my next phone, it will probably be an Android.

Although I will likely never, ever (ever) consider an Apple product for various technical and philosophical reasons, I do admit that the iPad is a product that fills a particular niche quite successfully. My mom has one and swears by it, if only because she can watch videos and answer e-mails in a pretty straightforward fashion (even if it's not ideal for typing, the mail app is not so bad).
For the more technically inclined, however, there is no question that Android devices offer much more bang for the buck, even if Apple has the bigger app store (which is something that could change in a matter of months). I am also pretty sure that I will be jumping into the tablet bandwagon as soon as HP releases the TouchPad, which has a developer-friendly OS and tools that look badass.

^ That's a reasoned response, makes sense to me.
Tell your mom to buy the Apple bluetooth keyboard, it mates with the iPad perfectly and makes a nice little desktop system.

I don't bash it because I don't think it's useful. I bash it because I think the idea of needing the things it offers at your fingertips at every moment of the day stupid and a little sad. It's like a butler. I'm sure that would be useful. Fetch me this or that. Make me something to eat. Tidy up my house before I get home. Now that's useful. But Jesus Christ do I really NEED all that. Or could I maybe be just fine if I can't watch netflix right now this very second.
BUT, I guess if you have the money for it and you feel it's worth it then go for it. I understand that not everyone feels the way I do. So people will continue to have butlers and others will continue to buy overpriced technological junk. I'm ok with that. That's kinda why I haven't been real vocal in this thread up to this point. Just because I don't want one doesn't mean others shouldn't. But just wanted to clear up that not everyone bashes the iPad because they don't think it's useful. Just unnecessary. Then again I feel that way about most technologies these days. Guess that's the redneck in me coming out.
