You despise your Yaris, so you joined a forum for Yaris enthusiasts?! Well, uh, welcome to the forum...

Yeah, that was a little off topic... now where was I?

Back to the OP's question:

I'd say that the Yaris is relatively quiet compared to other small cars that I've been in or driven. I mean, if you are in traffic with the air and radio off you can barely hear the engine running. Once you get up to highway speeds, I notice road noise from the wheels a bit and the hum of the engine. The only time I notice that it is noisy is when I'm flooring it, and well, I don't mind that too much...

you will be more bothered by the slight tick sound the engine makes while stoppped in trraffic and also the sound of ur change in ur side handles or the middle console rushing around while turning stopping or accelerating
even running a aftermarket intake exhaust wont be super loud

drive mine almost solely on the highway 65-80mph everyday, it definitely isnt quiet but i can hear music fine, talk on the phone normally, talk to a passenger just fine. it's a cheap little car and a hatchback at that so you're going to hear the road noise from the rear tires. as for the engine?? not so much- i've driven 10 miles down the highway in 4th gear going slow to get the mpgs up before i wonder why it's actually accelerating when i go to pass someone worth a crap and look down to see i left it in 4th

i do have a quite a bit of sound deadening on only my front doors

The road noise is a bit high, even for it's category (the tercel did as well 15 years ago) but it's still comfortable and "smooth".

You can fix a lot of the road noise from the wheel wells.

the noise is fun! Especially when you take the rear seats out and you can hear the gas swishing in the tank. I can hear every rock that gets picked up by the tires and hits the wheel wells or the underbody. I love it.
