I feel like a pioneer because up until now no one has been able to come up with a normally aspirated working alternative to the stock plastic Yaris manifold.

Just from driving it to town and back... I can't wait to put the tooter manifold on the dyno!

And then to a machine shop you can mass produce them and sell me one lol

There'll definitely be a production run of tooters...

... IF the dyno shows any real honest no BS gains.

The dyno runs will answer the question soon as to whether or not this project has any production value. If the tooter manifold shows any tangible real world dyno run improvements... and that's still a really big if... It will be possible for anyone to make their own tooter manifold.

Tooter, you should do a back to back run swapping manifolds if you can, when you get to the dyno.

But congratulations on getting it going!!!

Thanks.
I won't be swapping manifolds on a hot engine. Plus, I already have the baseline dyno runs done and don't want to pay double. The upcoming tooter manifold runs will be done on the same dyno machine.

if you do make a production run, you should leave the "tooter" on it.

I can't believe you ran with a T-shirt. I will admit, I wouldn't have been able to resist myself. you have been very patient with this project and it looks awesome. regardless of what the dyno does, I think it was an awesome project. if the dyno results are positive, it will be just icing on the cake.

so have you scheduled a dyno session yet? ;)

Definitely...
They will all be genuine tooters.

And if people don't like the name, it's no problem because when the manifold is installed, you can't see the name!

I was so effing desperate to actually run the car.

No, not yet.
I've been totally swamped with work, but I'll try to find some free time to run it. The air filter issue still needs to be resolved before I can do the dyno runs.

Agreed! Too many people (myself included) start on some monumental project and get stuck somewhere before the finished product. Seeing this come to fruition really is great!

You really helped to inspire me, Cranky. When I saw your drawings, they brought to light the physical issues involved in having a flange machined.

What also helped was this...

Having an actual physical template to measure off of made the project easier.

Thanks Garm.
It wasn't all we used. We also used the stock Yaris plastic manifold I bought from 90tsi to make sure everything matched up right, the flange cut off from the Corolla manifold for the port configuration on the other side, a 3 bolt Corolla throttle body gasket, as well as both stock yaris Oring gaskets. This way there was an actual physical representation for everything that needed to be fabricated.

Driving the car yesterday confirmed what I had suspected from the beginning but had no way of knowing for sure. That unique reverse-collector "exhaust header" plenum-less design inherently works as good or even better than the plenum "log" style manifolds. It was just a lot more expensive for the factory to design and fabricate the convoluted runners.

I was stunned at the superb tip-in response just as the butterfly opens off-idle when your first taking off from a stop. It's better than the stock manifold. This really got me excited because I was the most concerned with low rpm driveability because that's how my wife and I drive. We're more hypermiler than hotrodder. Now if the tooter is that good at the bottom, it can only mean that performance is sacrificed somewhere else, because you can't have everything. This is why I'm really eager to hit the dyno just to see how much is given up, and where the compromise is made.

You know, this is going to sound silly, but it is honestly what got me going on all of this.

I thought the manifold looked absolutely beautiful.

To me it was like a work of art. It had that really neato formula 1 racing freeflowing "bundle of snakes" tuned exhaust header look that I've always been fascinated by. I enjoy intuitively following what genuinely captures my interest just to see where it leads. It's like following a shiny slender mysterious silver thread of causality...

Was that the T-shirt you used? Now Garm can sell them as actual performance accessories :-D
